I came across this beautiful book, “Holy Moments” by Matthew Kelly and it really caught my attention. I asked myself, “What’s a holy moment?” This is Matthew Kelly’s definition of a holy moment: “A holy moment is a single moment in which we open ourselves to God. We make ourselves available to him. We set aside personal preference and self-interest, and for one moment we do what we prayerfully believe God is calling us to do.”

The New Ulm Deutscher Sprachklub will start a new season, meeting in the room attached to the MLC cafeteria from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9. Guest speakers will be Felix from the New Ulm sister cities program and two visiting police men from Germany. Those who wish to have lunch prior to the meeting may purchase a meal from MLC. Each year Bridging Brown County names a Bridge Builder of the Year. This award is given to someone who exemplifies the organization’s mission to strengthen our communities by bridging relationships of understanding and communication in Brown County. This year’s recipient is Sharon Pieschel of Springfield.
Early Childhood screening for fall will be on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at the Trinity Lutheran Church Basement. Any child 3 and a half is invited to attend. Appointments are still available by calling 7947873. Screening is free of charge and does take at least an hour to complete. Area schools require evidence that screening has been completed before entering kindergarten. A comparable developmental screening may be provided by a doctor as well.
Thursday, Sept. 15, was National Teach Ag Day, which is celebrated across the nation to recognize the agricultural education profession. Mrs. Hoffmann, Ms. Emmett, and Mr. Hendrickx are always encouraging their students to explore careers in agriculture, one of those being an Ag. teacher!
The Sleepy Eye Downtown Revitalization Committee was awarded $10,000 through the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation’s Small Town Grant program. The Small Town Grant program seeks to invest in collaborative initiatives which improve the way a community works together and solves challenges, impacting the culture, education, economy and/or social aspects of a community.
