First Day Hike at Minneopa State Park on Jan. 1 at 10 a.m.

Start out the New Year with a First Day Hike and a chance to view the winter landscape. The Minneopa Area Naturalist will lead a guided hike on the campground side of Minneopa State Park. America’s State Parks First Day Hikes offer individuals and families an opportunity to begin the New Year rejuvenating and connecting with the outdoors by taking a healthy hike on Jan. 1, 2023 at a state park.

Recycle Your Holiday lights collection is underway

Sleepy Eye YES! Team (Youth Eco Solutions) is set for its 12th annual “Recycle Your Holidays” lights collection. “Recycle Your Holidays” is an initiative originally sponsored by the Recycling Association of Minnesota to help Minnesotans recycle old holiday lights instead of disposing of them into local landfills. Now through Jan. 20, Sleepy Eye and area residents can dropoff their unwanted light strands at one of six locations: Brown County REA, Sleepy Eye Ace Hardware, Schutz Family Foods, Trinity Lutheran Church, Sleepy Eye Public School, and St. Mary’s School or Church.

Senior Citizens

The Sleepy Eye Senior Citizens Club met Nov. 11 at the Sleepy Eye Golf Club for lunch, followed by a business meeting with 11 members present. Judy Kunkel agreed to be co-chairperson with LeAnn Hale. Club dues will remain at $3.
