Love one another

It seems like summer came and went in a short 48-hour time period recently. As I write, it is cold, there is snow falling and I am convinced Christmas ornaments will up at Ace or Menards soon enough. One thing I have learned about the weather here in Minnesota, everything moves fast! Have you noticed how pathetic a robin covered with snow looks like in April? Poor things, but robins persist.

Dyckman Free Library News

Happy Spring! The library has been busy prepping for trees to be planted on Arbor Day, Friday, April 28. Students from from Sleepy Eye schools will join the Parks Department in planting a Prairie Stature Oak and a Birch tree on the north side of the library. The trees will be a beautiful addition to the library grounds and are replacing the decayed trees which were taken down earlier this year.

Chastity (Sixth Commandment)

Marriage and sexuality is one of the hottest topics in our world today. Our modern, western world is rebelling against God’s desire for mankind as summarized in the Sixth Commandment. While many people look at this issue and see only God’s anger and what He forbids, we need to remember that God’s commandments are given to mankind to protect a blessing He desires to bless mankind with. It is extremely important to remember this when we study the Sixth Commandment.

50 years ago - April 19, 1973 Nearly all of the small grain has been seeded in the Sleepy Eye area, according to Brown County Agent Lerry Peichel. Most farmers have been busy fertilizing as they ready the fields for corn and soybean planting. Field work is well in advance of last year.

Qui Vive Club

The GFWC Qui Vive Club met April 6 at Divine Providence Fireside Room, with some members of The Woman’s Club attending. Special guests were Sleepy Eye Public School foreign exchange student Amy van Bragt and some of her host family, Cathy Fischer, Sophie Gustafson and Jane Fischer. Amy is from the Netherlands and spoke about her country. She mentioned the differences of schools, sports, weather, and food, and shared treats of cookies and aged Gouda cheese.
