National FFA Week was celebrated by FFA members nationwide from February 14-21, 2025. The Sleepy Eye FFA Chapter was very active throughout FFA Week.
The Sleepy Eye Lions Club Students of the Month for February is Rachel Portner, a senior at St. Mary’s High School. She is the daughter of Mark and Lisa Portner.
At Sleepy Eye Elementary School we are excited to share some of the proactive steps we’re taking to help our students reach their full reading potential. With a clear focus on the legislative requirements of the Read Act, we are working hard to refine our intervention processes to better support students in closing gaps in reading and ensuring they meet grade-level expectations.
The Sleepy Eye Lions Club Students of the Month for January are Brandon Braulick, senior at St. Mary’s High School and Anna Johnson, senior at Sleepy Eye High School.
This month at St. Mary’s School, we have emphasized the virtue of gratitude, a fitting virtue, as we celebrate Catholic Schools Week at the end of January. During Catholic Schools Week, we celebrate the blessings of Catholic education and show gratitude to all who make our school possible.
South Dakota State University announced the following students from Sleepy Eye have been named to the fall semester 2024 dean’s list for earning a GPA of at least 3.5. Those marked with an asterisk earned a GPA of 4.0: Trey Heiderscheidt*, Jacob Lux*, Natalie Marti*, Reagan Severson, Trenton Steffensmeier, Jacob Stevens, Emily Weiss.
Sleepy Eye Public School is back in full swing after a well-deserved holiday break. I certainly hope that the winter weather will treat us a bit nicer than what we have experienced so far. I don’t mind the cold temperatures but like everything else I prefer it in moderation. We have a long way to go yet but I am hoping that we see a little less frigidity that we had the past month.
The Sleepy Eye Milk Quality Team advanced to state by taking second out of 13 teams at regionals on Jan. 14 in Mountain Lake. The state competition for Milk Quality and Food Science Career Development Events will be in April in the Twin Cities.
