As we close another school year, I feel deeply blessed and humbled by all we have accomplished together. Our school community is truly special—a group of people united in faith, purpose, and a shared belief in our mission.
Many awards were presented to the active members and leaders of the Sleepy Eye FFA Chapter at the Awards Program held on May 4. This is the second part of an article about the awards program, continuing from last week’s article.
Yard signs celebrating local graduates have sprouted on the lawn at Americana Community Bank once again. A five-year tradition the bank started in 2020 to make graduation special for the seniors who graduate that pandemic-affected year. The signs have the seniors’ photos and school names on them and are given to the students to take home prior to graduation. Both local high schools have graduation this weekend - Sleepy Eye Public on Friday, May 16 at 7 p.m. in the gym and St. Mary’s on Sunday, May 18 at 3 p.m. in the church.

Minnesota State University, Mankato held spring commencement ceremonies on Friday, May 9 in Taylor Center’s Bresnan Arena on campus. Students from Sleepy Eye receiving degrees were: Mckenna Larson, BS, Finance, Cum Laude; Misty Riebel, GC, Superintendent of Schools, Magna Cum Laude; Brooke Thibado, BSSW, Social Work, Magna Cum Laude.

The Sleepy Eye FFA Chapter held the Awards Program on Sunday, May 4. It was a great opportunity to honor the members and chapter leaders as well as the major supporters for the chapter throughout the year.
If you thought there were a lot of teenagers driving around in shiny cars wearing their fanciest duds on Saturday night, May 3, that’s because both Sleepy Eye High School and St. Mary’s High School held their Proms that night. And no, it wasn’t “Meet Me in Paris.”
Seventy-six Sleepy Eye FFA members traveled to the University of Minnesota campuses and State Fairgrounds, where they participated in the Annual Minnesota FFA State Convention. More than 5,700 FFA members, advisors and guests from throughout the state gathered for the convention April 29-30.
