A new year brings new paticipation opportunities for residents in the school district. Young families are provided activities through the Early Childhood Family Education program. The first event planned is the ECFE Advisory Board meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 4:30 p.m. The main item of business will be to finalize plans for the parent-child dances coming at the end of the month.

Kucera announced as football coach

Superintendent John Cselovszki informed the school board members at their Dec. 14 meeting that Brent Kucera was selected as Head Football Coach for the Sleepy Eye United varsity team which will take the field next fall. Cselovszki said the schools joint committee interviewed four candidates. Applications are now being accepted for assistant coach positions.

Lions Club Student of the Month for November – ISABELLA HOFFMANN

Isabella Hoffmann is a senior at St. Mary’s High School. She plays volleyball and softball and is in the school musicals. She belongs to the YES! Team, Minnesota Honor Society, and yearbook staff. Isabella serves on the Student Council, this year as treasurer and was captain of the volleyball team and dance captain for the musical. She volunteers as a Mass Server and helps with Food for Kidz. Isabella works as a barista at the Sleepy Eye Coffee Company.

Lions Club Student of the Month for November – GUNNY COULSON

Gunny Coulson is a senior at Sleepy Eye High School. He plays hockey and baseball and is in Pepband and Concert Band. Gunny is on the Knowledge Bowl team (which was 8th in the state last year) and belongs to FFA and the Minnesota Honor Society. He is Senior Class President and also serves on the Trinity Church Youth Board. Gunny volunteers with the Weekend Backpack program and the Blizzard bag project. Gunny does lawn mowing and also works at Mark Thomas Company.

Sleepy Eye Public School news

This past week the joint Sleepy Eye United football committee conducted interviews for the new head coaching position. We interviewed four very good candidates. After the interview process the committee selected Bent Kucera to be the new head coach for the SEU football team for the 2022-23 season. Brent brings experience, expertise, passion and leadership to the program. The next process is going to be the hiring of assistant coaches. We are looking to conduct the search and hire the coaching staff in the near future.
