is a senior at Sleepy Eye High. She is active in FFA and 4-H, serving as treasurer of her club, the Sleepy Eye Wide Awakes. Her area of interest is horses and she does Endurance Riding and enters competitions. Sophie works at Port-Haven Dairy Farm, feeding calves and milking.
Superintendent John Cselovszki presented Minnesota School Board Recognition Month certificates to the school board members at their Feb. 8 meeting and expressed his appreciation for the work they do on the board and various committees.
The Academic Dean’s lists for the past fall semester at Minnesota State University, Mankato have been announced. Students earning High Honors have achieved a GPA of 4.0; those earning Honors have achieved a GPA of 3.5 to 3.99. The River Valley Speech team includes 16 students from Springfield Public School, nine students from Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s School and one student from Sleepy Eye Public School and is led by head coach, Brianna Jensen and assistant coach, Gigi Bliss.
Southwest Minnesota State University announced Fall semester Dean’s Lists—High Honors for achieving a 4.0 GPA and Honors for 3.5 or higher GPA. Sleepy Eye students names to the Dean’s Lists are, High Honors: Cassidy Hoffmann and Mason Sellner. Honors: Kyle Goblirsch and Mackenzie Helget.
Junior High FFA members have been busy making cards for Valentine’s Day in order to spread some cheer at the nursing homes and Countryside Assisted Living. More than 25 junior high members made 45 Valentine Cards to lift the spirits of the residents.
SouthPoint Financial Credit Union hosted 30 Sleepy Eye Public and St. Mary’s school juniors on Jan. 19 for a Mad City Money simulation program as a companion to the OJT (On the Job Training) program.
