At the March 8 meeting of the Sleepy Eye School Board, Superintendent John Cselovszki told the board that with all the “snow” days this winter, the district has used five digital days for instruction.
On Saturday, March 4, the River Valley speech team took second place at the Montevideo Thunder Hawk Speech Invitational. Earning first place champion medals were CJ Surprenant in extemporaneous speaking and Samantha Ibberson in poetry interpretation. Second place medals were awarded to Kiera Lafferty in serious prose interpretation, Abigail Schwartz in Original Oratory, Lily Kallevig in extemporaneous reading, and John Miller in serious drama interpretation. Brenna Pabst received a third place medal in serious prose interpretation. A fourth place medal was earned by Joseph Jensen in humorous interpretation. Isabella Hoffmann and Paige Schwarzrock both received 5th place medals in informative speaking and humorous interpretation, respectively. Sarah Kottke rounded off the team’s accomplishments with a blue ribbon.

During February, Heart Month, the kindergarten through 6th grade students at Sleepy Eye Elementary School had their jump rope units in Physical Education (PE) classes. “Along with our jump rope unit we tied in Kids Heart Challenge, which used to be known as Jump Rope for Heart,” said PE teacher Zach Kelly.
National FFA Week was celebrated by FFA members nationwide from February 17-25. The Sleepy Eye FFA Chapter was very active throughout FFA Week, and after—due to the big snowstorm during FFA Week that caused postponement of some activities.
