Students tour Highwater Ethanol

Twenty-three 10th and 11th grade students from Sleepy Eye High School’s crop science class toured Highwater Ethanol in rural Lamberton on March 22 to learn about renewable fuel production. During the tour, the students learned about the various stages in ethanol production such as incoming grain grading, grain handling, fermentation, grain storage, ethanol storage and shipment and dried distillers grains production and shipment.

FFA members compete in Agriscience Fair

The Roland Peterson Agriculture Education Science Fair was held on March 9 at the University of Minnesota, St. Paul Campus. The Minnesota FFA Association uses this invitational as the Minnesota FFA’s Agriscience Fair. The highest- ranking FFA member or team of members with an agricultural project will advance to the national competition.

Community Education News

Students needing behind the wheel instruction have received a listing of times and weeks when it will be offered in Sleepy Eye. Six hours are required by law to be completed with a licensed instructor. Parents will also be practicing with the student 40 or 50 hours before the student takes the road test. Most sessions are Monday through Thursday for one and a half hours each day. The schedule is May 22 through July 27 but additional weeks can be added if needed. Participants need their permit in order to do behind the wheel and are encouraged to practice a couple of hours before starting the instruction. The program has been able to provide behind the wheel instruction for youth who may have taken the classroom instruction elsewhere; call the Community Education office for more information.

SEHS announces musical production for next fall

HAKUNA MATATA!! Director George Hirschboeck was excited to announce to the students this week that the 2023 Fall Musical at Sleepy Eye High School will be the “The Lion King Experience Jr.” Hirschboeck said a large cast with singing and non-singing roles is needed for the production. Auditions will take place in the Choir Room at Sleepy Eye High School on Sunday and Monday, March 26 and 27, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Minnesota North College announced that Lane Trebesch of Sleepy Eye was named to the Dean’s List for Fall Semester 2022 for earning a GPA of 3.25 or higher. The University of Minnesota Twin Cities announced the following students from Sleepy Eye were named to the 2022 fall semester Dean’s List for attaining a 3.66 GPA: Katelyn Capacia, Brooklyn Moldan, and Reagan Severson.
