The last weeks of the school year are here. Sleepy Eye Public School students will have their last day of classes on Friday, May 19. St. Mary’s students will complete their year the following week. Many year-end activities are planned as well as many athletic events including a number of double headers and rescheduled competitions. Check the school websites for the most up to date schedules and if the times work, go out and support the youth in their endeavors.
Five members of the River Valley speech team competed in the MSHSL Class A State Speech tournament held at Eastview High School in Apple Valley on Saturday, April 29. This year’s participants included Springfield students: senior, Sarah Kottke in drama; junior, Kiera Lafferty in prose; the duo team composed of freshman, Lily Pingeon and eighth grader, Leo Hovland; and Sleepy Eye High School sophomore, Lily Kallevig in extemporaneous reading.

The Senior Awards Program for the Sleepy Eye High School Class of 2023 was held on Wednesday, April 19. Many scholarships and awards were presented, along with Gold Cords to students who maintained a GPA of 3.0 higher (pictured).
Congratulations to the Sleepy Eye FFA Chapter and to the following CDE teams and individuals for their achievement at the Minnesota FFA State Convention: •Soils Team - 3rd place. •Poultry Team - 4th place.
St. Mary's Catholic School Principal After a long and cold winter, it is time to take a trip to the Caribbean! And, although we cannot take everyone to the islands, we can invite them to our annual Caribbean Knight Party on May 6 from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Join us for a night in the “tropics” with tropical drinks, delicious food, games, pull tabs, raffles, and a live and silent auction. In addition, the band “Up South” will provide the live music. This is an event that will make you forget all about the endless Minnesota winter as you have a fantastic time with family and friends.
Bethel University in Dean’s List, honors st.u-St. Paul announced that Julia Helget- of Sleepy Eye has been named to the Dean’s List for academic excellence for the fall 2022 semester. The dents who achieve an outstanding scholastic record during a semester with a GPA of 3.6 or greater.
The River Valley speech team earned fourth place in the Section 2A Section on Friday, April 14 at Janesville-Waldorf- Pemberton High School and qualified five for State.
Five Sleepy Eye FFA CDE teams competed in their last Region VI Contests on April 5 and April 14. The Dairy Team placed first in their regional contest.
