September is Minnesota School Board Recognition Month — a time to honor the dedicated individuals who serve as the guiding light for student success in our public schools. School board members in Sleepy Eye Public School serve countless hours to ensure our public school students have access to high-quality learning and extra-curricular opportunities that prepare them for a bright future.
High school social studies teacher Zoe Macklanburg and agriculture/FFA teacher Alyssa Mitchell cover very different subjects, but their goal is the same: to make learning fun for their students.
St. Mary’s school year began with the addition of three new staff members, whose varied backgrounds bring a diverse range of talent to the classroom.
The Sleepy Eye FFA Chapter was once again well-represented at this year’s Minnesota State Fair. Eight members showed livestock at the fair. Nine members participated in the Chapter Demonstration Competition. A total of 244 members participated in exhibiting over 1050 entries for the Ag. Technology, Ag. Literacy and Crops competitions.

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire announced that Landon Wendinger of Sleepy Eye was awarded a Freshman Honors Scholarship for the 2025-26 academic year.
It’s an old joke - or complaint - that students graduate high school knowing that mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell but without knowing how to balance a checkbook, write a resume, or prepare for an interview. Fortunately, Sleepy Eye’s On the Job Training program (OJT) has stepped in to fill the gap between school and real life by coordinating local businesses willing to host students who are interested in gaining work experience.
The Sleepy Eye FFA chapter would like to recognize a select group of distinguished members who donated much of their time to the Ag. Program and community throughout the summer. These 45 members were named the 2025 Sleepy Eye FFA Summer All-Stars.
