Drop a line, the fishing is fine

There is quite a village of fish houses on Sleepy Eye Lake already (winter is good for something) and in just a couple weeks the lake will really be hopping with anglers at the Sportsmen's Club's 40th Annual Fishing Derby on Sunday, Feb. 6. DEB MOLDASCHEL

Help keep our streets and sidewalks safe

SNOW…..it’s something we get to deal with living here in Minnesota. Deciding when our snow removal crews hit the streets is something that’s not always the easiest decision. My goal is to get started with snow removal as soon as the snow ends, unless the wind is blowing causing low visibility and major drifting. This seems to work the best as we get the snow scraped off the roads better when there has been less traffic packing it down.

Don’t push snow on to highways

Question: What is the law in regards to pushing snow from ones driveway out onto the road? Answer: It is illegal to place snow from a driveway on or next to a public highway or street. The Minnesota Department of Transportation reminds everyone, “The placing of snow on or near a public road creates hazards, including drainage problems, drifting, sight obstruction and unsafe access.
