Kenneth Tom Meyer

ST. PAUL - Ken (Tom) (56) was born September 3rd, 1965, in Oakland California, and passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, February 5th, 2022, in St. Paul Minnesota. Ken (Tom) graduated from Sleepy Eye Public School. Ken (Tom) grew up in Southern Minnesota on a farm, where he enjoyed farm life and farm animals. Ken (Tom) was a mechanic and had a passion for fixing cars and enjoyed riding motorcycles. Ken (Tom) loved Mountain Dew, Slim Jim’s, and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, but hated washing dishes and butchering chickens on Sundays. Ken (Tom) spent the last 27 wonderful years with his girlfriend Dawn and daughter Brandy. His love for them grew every day. He loved taking them to concerts. Every Friday Ken (Tom) would take Brandy to South China Island Inn. He spent time cooking Dawn’s favorite childhood meals. Ken (Tom), Dawn, and Brandy would go to the Minnesota State Fair every opening day, each year. The most recent concert Ken (Tom), Dawn, and Brandy attended together was the Zach Williams band in Iowa. Ken (Tom)’s love for Dawn and Brandy was so strong, he drove to New York for a hockey game, and Florida to swim with the dolphins. Always along for the ride was Ken (Tom)’s best friend Scooter, where he traveled everywhere with their family. Ken (Tom) is survived by his girlfriend Dawn M. Kirscher of 27 years of St. Paul Minnesota; daughter Brandy; son Robert of Fairmont Minnesota; best friend Scooter; sister Irene Zinniel (Jay Wolf) of Sioux Falls South Dakota; brothers Ron Myers (Kari) of Sleepy Eye Minnesota; Tim Myers of New Ulm Minnesota; nieces Cassandra Fritz (Matt) of Farmington Minnesota; Hannah Thom (Jacob) of Mankato Minnesota; nephews Joseph Zinniel (Amy) of Bloomington Minnesota; Matthew Zinniel (Maddy) of Elbow Lake Minnesota; Jonathan Myers of New Ulm Minnesota; Jordan Myers of New Ulm Minnesota; Colton Myers of Sleepy Eye Minnesota; Mason Myers of Sleepy Eye Minnesota; great-niece Quinn; great-nephews Finley, Theodor, Abram, and Beau; two beautiful granddaughters. Preceded in death Ken (Tom)’s mother Marcy Myers, father, and grandmother.

All Things Sleepy Eye

With a nod to 2022 being the 150th Anniversary of the City of Sleepy Eye’s founding, the Chamber of Commerce celebrated at their annual meeting at the Event Center on Saturday night, Feb. 5, with a theme of “All Things Sleepy Eye.” Attendees decked out in their Sleepy Eye anything, Sleepy Eye business, or Sleepy Eye event attire enjoyed an evening of socializing and celebrating all things Sleepy Eye.

Hockey teams heading into Section play

The Eagles girls hockey team is heading into Section 3A play as the #1 seed. With a bye on the first night of the tournament (Feb. 10) they will meet the winner of the #4 WIndom vs. #5 Fairmont game in the next round—at the New Ulm Civic Center on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 3 p.m.

Knights over Indians in girls basketball

One month after their first match up, cross-town rivals, the Knights and Indians met again in girls basketball on Thursday, Feb. 3. The first meeting on Jan. 4 saw the Indians lead at the half and the Knights come back to win the game, 61-47. The second game Thursday night had the Knights up by 9 at halftime, and getting an 18 point lead at one point, with the Indians fighting back to keep the second half close, losing by 10 in the end. Madison Mathiowetz scored 44 of the Knights' points.

Domeier is all time high scorer

Carson Domeier broke the St. Mary's men's basketball scoring record on Feb. 4 when he surpassed the record of 1,838 held by assistant coach Sean Mathiowetz since 2013. Domeier needed 30 to break the record and scored 37. Knights over Indians in boys’ game

Last Friday night when the local boys basketball teams met at Sleepy Eye High School, Knight Carson Domeier had a big all around game while scoring his 1,846th career point, becoming the all time scoring leaders for St. Mary’s boys (passing assistant coach Sean Mathiowetz’s 2013 mark of 1,838)

SLEEPY EYE - Douglas “Zeb” Ibberson age 65, of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota died on February 2, 2022, at his home in Evan, MN. Service will be held at the Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye Chapel, on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Fred Allan Ehlert

MINNETONKA - Fred Allan Ehlert, 54, of Minnetonka, MN, passed away suddenly at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, with his wife by his side holding his hand, on January 13, 2022 Fred was born in Breckenridge, MN, the seventh and youngest child of Harry and Hilarion Ehlert on September 2, 1967. Fred grew up in Alexandria, MN and graduated from Duluth Central High School class of 1985.
