International Woman’s Day
March 8 is International Women’s Day. Don’t ask me how I know this. I just do. So let us speak of Woman, specifically the International Woman. I like her. Very much. In my opinion She deserves much more than a day. But time waits for no man. Or woman, it seems. So… let’s get to it.
Community support sought for helicopter in Veteran’s Park
You may have heard about the effort to bring a Huey helicopter to Sleepy Eye for display in Veteran’s Park downtown. EDA Coordinator Kurk Kramer has written about it several times in his monthly column and fundraising flyers and letters have been circulated in the community. You may wonder how this all came about.
Students observe lake watershed study process
St. Mary’s Environmental Science students watch as MSU geology professor, Dr. Bryce Hoppie, tests water chemistry and collects a sediment core sample from the bottom of East Sleepy Eye Lake (the slough). Hoppie leads an ongoing watershed study for the City of Sleepy Eye and when possible allows the Environmental Science students to observe and follow the progress of the study. Knights defeat Mayer Lutheran, Mt. Lake Area
The Knights boys basketball team hosted Mayer Lutheran on Thursday night, Feb. 24, and battled back from a 15 point deficit to win 55-50.

Eagles play for Section Championship
The New Ulm Eagles boys hockey team entered Section 3A playoffs as the #1 seed and plowed through #8 seed Fairmont, 10-1, at home on Feb. 24.
Indians end regular season with big OT win over BLHS
The Indians girls basketball team was scheduled to play the Mustangs of BLHS, at hoe, on Tuesday, Feb. 22—a snow day. Activities Director Cory Haala was able to reschedule the game, after securing officials, on Thursday night.
Lady Knights fall to YME at the buzzer
A threatened snow storm on Feb. 22 canceled what was supposed to be the Lady Knights’ final regular season game against GHECML at Granada. It was not rescheduled but Coach Bruce Woitas was able to schedule one more game for the Knights before they headed in to Subsection playoffs. They traveled to Granite Falls to play Yellow Medicine East on Thursday, Feb. 24 and lost, 76- 74, as YME hit a buzzer beater.
