Voice of Sleepy Eye will be missed

Craig Hansen, the long time “voice of Sleepy Eye” on KNUJ radio’s FM station, SAM 107-3, passed away last week and things just won’t be the same to loyal listeners of the morning Sleepy Eye show on the radio, or for anyone involved in a community event who wanted to promote it on Craig’s show “Community Accent.” In fact, community events won’t be the same anymore as Craig was everywhere for any event, representing the radio station or volunteering for the event.

Mayor’s Message — Home Rule Charter, donations

Sleepy Eye stands out among the cities in Minnesota as one of the 107 Home Rule Charter Cities, out of the 853 cities in the state. The citizens of Sleepy Eye adopted a charter, essentially a local constitution, approved by our voters at a special election on Dec. 23, 1903, and it has since undergone several amendments to adapt to changing times and needs.

Speech team earns second at Redwood Valley tournament

The River Valley Speech Team competed close to home on Saturday, March 1, earning second in the Redwood Valley Cardinal Invitational in Redwood Falls. This tournament featured fifteen schools, from both A and AA schools. A multitude of the team’s speakers received special recognition. Alexandra Confer earned a first-place champion medal in prose. Lily Kallevig received a second-place medal in extemoporaneous reading. Receiving third-place medals were Abigail Jensen in prose, Paige Schwarzrock in humor, and the duo team of Lily Pingeon and Leo Hovland. Fourth-place medals were awarded to Kaylee Granda in drama, Kyla Peichel in Great Speeches, Nora Hoffmann in poetry, and Levi Johnson in storytelling.

Brown County Dairy Princesses to be crowned

The crowning of the new Brown County Dairy Princesses will be held March 8, 2024 at 1:00 pm in New Ulm, MN at the Farm City Hub Club Farm Show. The Dairy Princess Program is sponsored by the dairy promotion check-off, which helps to build demand and sales for dairy products.
