Florence Alice Elizabeth Steinhaus was born May 13, 1926 in Bandon Township, Renville County, the daughter of Lila (Streich) and Ferdinand Steinhaus. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Morgan and was later confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fairfax. Florence was united in marriage to Andrew Sandgren on June 16, 1944 at Swedlanda Lutheran Church. The couple farmed in the Hector area until 1951. They moved to Chokio and farmed until retirement in 1979 when they built a house and moved into town. They enjoyed having friends over for coffee and playing cards. When Andrew passed away, Florence sold her house and moved to Sleepy Eye to be near her sister Beverly. They had a daily morning coffee time together at 9:30 a.m. for over 15 years. Florence enjoyed tending her flowers and feeding the birds. She loved going to garage sales and thrift shops. She was a collector of “unique” things.

Florence is survived by her children, Barbara (Lee) Forrester of Aitkin, and Larry (Judy) Sandgren of Edina; grandchildren, Todd (Kelly) Forrester of Shakopee, Matthew (Melissa) Sandgren of St. Paul, Wendy Forrester (fiancé Terry Bryant) of St. Croix Beach, and Laura (Joe) Glass of Richfield; great grandchildren, Amber and Autumn Forrester, Chloe and Zach Sandgren, Joshua, Ethan and Justin Glass; sister, Beverly (Earl) Altmann of Sleepy Eye and Robert Steinhaus (friend Arlene) of Rochester; and many nieces and nephews. Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew; daughter-in-law, Muriel Sandgren; parents; sister, Lois and brothers, Dellas, Delmar and Gordon. May the Lord bless her memory among family and friends.
