Students and staff are happy to be back in school.

St. Mary’s and Public School students returned to classes on Monday morning. St. John’s School will start Monday, Aug. 31.

“We had an awesome day,” said St. Mary’s Elementary School Principal Mary Gangelhoff, “the kid’s came back excited with bright smiles.” She especially appreciated the cool weather, saying with a chuckle, “It was almost the best thing about the day, since we don’t have air conditioning.”

Public School Superintendent and Elementary Principal John Cselovszki agreed that it was an awesome day. “We had a great assembly and great first day, with a super hero theme. I even dressed as Batman,” he said. He added that on Tuesday they were emphasizing their Positive Behaviors program with special activities.

As has been the custom for the past several years, Public and St. Mary’s will not have school on Friday, Sept. 4, allowing for a long Labor Day weekend. Cselovszki said that when the school district began the early start schedule, they wanted to provide time for students and families to attend the State Fair - that weekend is when the FFA clubs show their projects.

St. John’s will hold school that Friday.
