St. Mary’s 42   Comfrey/Cedar Mountain 2

That’s not a typo. In an away game St. Mary's scored 20 runs in the first inning against the hapless Cougars and then piled more on in the next four innings to run the score up to 42 on 31 hits, which may be a record for the Knights. The brutal beat down was mercifully ended in the fifth inning. There really isn’t much to be said about a game like this. Clearly it was an uncomfortable situation for St. Mary's and not much fun to play an opponent that can’t mount a challenge. Brianna Bertrand and Jody Hansen combined to pitch five innings for the win, giving up only three hits. The C/CM losing pitcher, Molly Carrell faced 66 Knight’s batters.

Batting leaders: Jody Hansen: 4-6, 2 RBI, 5 runs scored, Laura Pelzel: 3-3, 2 RBI, Anna Lux: 3-3, 1-2B, Ali Beltz: 2-2, 1-2B, 2 RBI, Carly Hoffmann: 2-2, 2 RBI, Natalie Schroepfer: 2-4, 1-2B, 2 RBI, Emily Ludwig: 3-5, 5 runs scored, 1-2

St. Mary’s lost a close game to the Grayhounds when they could not hold a one run lead going into the bottom of the fifth inning. Anna Lux pitched all seven innings to take the tough loss. Anna Mohr got the win for Cathedral. “Overall this was a fun game to be a part of, and we look forward to a rematch on May 4 at home,” said Wendy Owens, St. Mary's Head Coach.
