On a cold windswept course, the St. Mary’s boys golf team took second place with a score of 202 in a tri-match with Madelia and GFW last Tuesday evening. Madelia won the match with a score of 199 and GFW placed third with 212 strokes. Ryan Heinrichs of the Knights was medalist with the lowest score of 42. “I don’t expect a lot of good golf to be played today,” said Tim Milliard, coach of the St. Mary’s boys and girls teams. “Not only is the wind a challenge, but it’s just going to get colder as the evening wears on.” Milliard’s prediction was right on the money as the players struggled around the course. This early in the season the greens are not in great shape, and the players were frustrated with putts stopping way short of the hole.

In the girls match, the St. Mary’s team did not have enough players to post an official team score, but Anna Miller of the Knights was the medalist with a stroke total of 49. Madelia won the match with a 244 stroke total and GFW placed second at 256.
