On Nov. 29, Mathiowetz Construction Company (MCC) located in Leavenworth, celebrated 90 years in business with an open house at their facility at 30676 County Road 24, southwest of Sleepy Eye.

Started in 1924 by Martin and Louisa Mathiowetz, the company has now transitioned to third and fourth generation ownership. Clearing land, building township roads, and plowing snow were the early challenges.

Today, the company has grown to perform a wide range of services related to earthmoving, commercial and agricultural development, highways, and project management. Richard Mathiowetz, as second generation leader, was a visionary and delegated responsibilities to third generation and current CEO, Brian Mathiowetz.

His sudden death in 1999 did not result in the end of the company, instead the company continues to grow and prosper. Today, MCC has over 180 employees with some of the most experienced operators in the business. They serve construction projects spanning a large portion of Minnesota, South Dakota and Iowa.
