The Minnesota Credit Union Network (MnCUN) announced the recipients of the Outstanding Credit Union Professional of the Year at the MnCUN 2012 Annual Meeting and Convention on April 13-14. The 2012 Professional of the Year Award was given to a remarkable individual who truly gives all he can to improve his credit union and pours his time and talents into furthering the advancement of credit unions statewide and internationally. This award is given each year to a person who works to selflessly promote the credit union ideal, and this year’s deserving honoree was Dick Nesvold of SouthPoint Federal Credit Union in Sleepy Eye.

Nesvold has served SouthPoint Federal Credit Union as President and CEO for 16 years. Under his leadership, the credit union has seen a steady rise in membership, a huge expansion in its products and services, the opening of two branch offices and most recently the expansion of their field of membership to the counties of Blue Earth, Brown, Le Sueur, Nicollet, Redwood, Renville and Sibley. Dick strongly believes in the credit union philosophy of “people helping people.” He exemplifies that by involving himself and his staff in many worthwhile causes, including as a member of the Credit Unions for Kids committee and SouthPoint FCU’s participation in Kids Against Hunger events.

Nesvold also commits his time to advancing the credit union movement on an international level. His work to develop a partnership between credit unions in Minnesota and Paraguay – through the organization CENCOPAN – has brought him to the country four times. He also has hosted visitors from CENCOPAN on three occasions in an effort to offer insight on the development of credit unions in South America.

“Dick is the type of person who wants to be involved. He believes that our organization’s purpose is to be involved and to try to make people’s lives better,” said Troy Diedrich, Vice President of Marketing and Development at SouthPoint FCU.
