One of the major goals for the Sleepy Eye YES! Team this year was public awareness of the need for energy conservation and stewardship.

One way they hoped to do this was by surveying Sleepy Eye businesses and having them share what they are already doing to use energy and resources wisely.

Their plan was to feature businesses in a Hall of Fame where the letters F.A.M.E stood for Frontrunners in Actions to Manage  Energy.

The group prepared an on-line survey that was sent out to businesses in December.

Only two businesses responded.

Because those businesses took the time out to fill out the survey, the Yes team would like to thank Zinniel Electric and BIC Advertising and Promotional Products.

Next Fall the Yes team hopes to re-open the survey and stive for  more responses.

Zinniel Electric is the leading business in the area that is certified as a solar installer.  Because solar energy is free and does not cause pollution, it is wonderful to have this service here in Sleepy Eye.

Zinniels also recycle paper, cardboard, glass, and plastic.  In addition, they have updated all their lighting fixtures to energy efficient CFL’s and plan to use more “green products” in the future.

BIC is a major employer in Sleepy Eye, and are making or have made many energy-wise changes in lighting, heating systems, water usage, facility modifications, recycling efforts, and using “green products.”

According to the Yes teams research, a law going into effect by the year 2025, says that 25 percent of the energy in Minnesota must come from renewable sources.
