Sleepy Eye 69, Madelia 58
The Sleepy Eye boys basketball team picked up a non-conference win at Madelia Friday night.
The Indians built a 16-point half time lead en route to a 69-58 win.
“We played well in stretches and did what we had to do to get the win,” said coach Brian Polesky.
The Indians had a balanced scoring attack with four players in double figures including Mitch Laffen with 16.
Tyler Hadley and Marc Gemmill each scored 11 while Andrew Geiger hit for 10.
Sleepy Eye 80, North Metro 71
Sleepy Eye concluded their regular season in grand fashion with a dominating performance over North Metro.
The Indians were in control most of the way with the Blazers closing the gap somewhat in the final minutes as Sleepy Eye emptied the bench.
The Blazers are a team comprised of homeschooled students from the north metro area and are coached by former Sleepy Eye hoops star Matt Lendt.
“This was an enjoyable night for the team, especially the seniors on senior night,” said coach Brian Polesky.
“They all played well against a scrappy North Metro team.”
Sleepy Eye ends the year on a roll, winning five of their final six contests and seven of their last nine.
The number three seeded Indians (14-11 record) will open section play by hosting number six Nicollet Tuesday night.
