A split second made all the difference in the Sleepy Eye girls 40-29 overtime loss to ACGC in the Section 2A Tournament Tuesday night.
Melissa Falk hit a shot that would have given the Indians a win at the end of regulation but the ball left her hand too late. The score remained 29-29 heading into the extra period.
“I think that shot took the breath out of us,” said coach John Hamre.
Sleepy Eye was outscored 11-0 in overtime. The higher seeded Falcons move on while the Indians season came to an end.
The Indians were down by as many as eight in the second half but managed to claw their way back into the contest, eventually taking a 26-25 lead.
“We gave them a run for their money. We played well and we had a chance to win,” said Hamre.
The game ultimately ended up being decided at the free throw line where Sleepy Eye went 4-7 while ACGC was 15-30.
“We are a young team and we showed that at times,” explained Hamre.
Claire Krumbach led the offense with 10 points.
The Indians season ends with a 9-17 mark.
