St. Olaf College announced that Gunny Coulson of Sleepy Eye is on the Spring 2025 Dean’s List for earning a GPA of 3.75 or above.

Ericksen to represent Sleepy Eye at Minneapolis Aquatennial next week

On Tuesday morning, Emily Ericksen will follow in the footsteps of many past Miss Sleepy Eye queens before her by participating in the Minneapolis Aquatennial Queen of the Lakes program. Over the years, Sleepy Eye has been represented well at the Minneapolis Aquatennial, including six women being crowned as Aquatennial Princesses and one as Queen of the Lakes. For Emily, this week-long flurry of activity will be the culmination of her reign as Miss Sleepy Eye 2024, ending with the Queen of the Lakes Coronation on Saturday.

Where’s My Guitar, Darling?

I am an Episcopalian, an American citizen with a college degree, a published author, I have a great many more important concerns than trying to navigate the Delta Air Lines website to purchase a flight to MSP but I have now wasted an hour and a half and worked myself into a crimson rage trying to delete two expired credit cards from the site and put in a new one, and luckily for me I’m a liberal Democrat so I don’t own a gun, otherwise this laptop would be full of holes and cops in camo would be pounding on my door.

Support for Junior Achievement

First Security Bank made a $2,000 donation to support the Junior Achievement financial literacy program in Sleepy Eye. Junior Achievement provides K-12 students in Sleepy Eye schools with common sense, hands-on experience in business, managing money and entrepreneurship. Volunteers from the Junior Achievement program were presented with a check at the bank.

Yard of the Month

The July Yard of the Month is the yard of Marie Bushard at 509 6th Ave. SE. The” Yard of the Month” contest continues over the summer months here in Sleepy Eye.
