Around 250 tickets have been purchased for the Sleepy Eye Community Theater’s upcoming production of “Seussical Junior: The Musical.” The cast includes second through ninth graders from Sleepy Eye, Springfield, and New Ulm, all of whom have been giving the two-week rehearsal process everything they’ve got, according to director Samarah Forster.
Minnesota Farmfest is preparing for its 44th show, August 5-7, 2025, and their lineup of education sessions, events and exhibitors aims to prepare ag producers for the coming year.
Brown County Public Health will host a community forum on Saturday, August 9, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Sleepy Eye Coffee Company (121 Main Street West, Sleepy Eye). Community members are invited to join the conversation around an important question: “What does a healthy community look like to you?”
The Sleepy Eye Woman’s Club met on July 15 at the Flo Dance Studio for a presentation by Samarah Forster. Club Members had an opportunity to watch one of her students perform a dance. Samarah explained how the studio came about and informed club members about the variety of programs offered through the dance studio. Finally, Samarah taught members of the club how to perform a simple line dance. It was a very entertaining and enjoyable program.
Senior Legion fell to Luverne 3-2 in game one on July 26, followed by an 11-1 loss in game two, ending their season as Southwest Sub-State runners-up. A disappointment for the team as they hoped to get to the state tournament again to cap off a great season.
Sister Clara Marie Schotzko, a member of the Sisters of Saint Francis, Rochester, will celebrate her 60th Diamond Jubilee on August 2, at Assisi Heights.
Well, the changing of the guard has officially begun. We celebrated Pat’s incredible 50+ years of service to Sleepy Eye Public Schools with a retirement party on June 30. Former staff, community members, family and friends gathered to honor Pat’s amazing legacy as Community Education Director and teacher for District 84. Thank you to all who attended or reached out to thank Pat for her dedication and service to our community.
The Sleepy Eye Summer Agricultural Education program has been busy over the months of June and July. Along with leadership and tour opportunities, short hands-on classes have been taking place at Sleepy Eye Public School.
The Senior Citizens met at the food shelf before their regular July meeting. Josie Rose gave a tour of the facility and explained how things are run. The food shelf is open every Monday late afternoon for people to pick up food.
