Each summer the city council works on the next year’s budget in a process that involves several meetings and much preparation by City Manager Bob Elston. The council is required to submit a preliminary budget to Brown County in September. That budget can be revised downward before the final budget is submitted in December, but it cannot increase.
Randy Krzmarzick’s Herald-Dispatch story about Dominic Sellner’s 1975 grand slam homer that gave St. Mary’s the DIstrict 10 championship, was so well-received, that Krzmarzick agreed to follow-up with a picture of the beer blast arranged to commemorate the occasion, 50 years later, at the Sleepy Eye Brewing Company on June 6.
The University of Minnesota Rochester announced Paige Rose of Sleepy Eye was named to the chancellor’s list for spring semester for earning a 3.666 or higher GPA.
On the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples and they told people about the love of God, the good news of Jesus Christ, and the mission that they were sent on. They spoke in many languages, all the languages of the people around them. When those gathered heard this, they thought something strange was happening. They thought maybe the disciples had broken into the wine a little early, or maybe they had lost their minds.
The Sleepy Eye Knights of Columbus donated money collected through their tootsie roll campaign to Sleepy Eye Public and St. Mary’s schools. The campaign focuses on supporting individuals with learning disabilities and Special Olympics Minnesota.
St. Mary’s School Campus was selected as June Yard of the Month. If anyone in the community notices an outstanding yard, they should contact Kurk Kramer to nominate it, with the name and address.
