The quiet early morning of May 8 in Sleepy Eye, was punctured by the sounds of firetruck and ambulance sirens at 7 a.m. in response to a house fire in the 700 block of 3rd Avenue NE. Sleepy Eye Police Department and the Brown County Sheriff’s Office were also dispatched to the scene.

The Sleepy Eye United girls and boys won their final conference tournaments Monday, giving both teams the sweep of all three Tomahawk/Valley contests this season against 10 other teams. The girls have now won the conference title four years in a row, while the boys won their first title since 2022.
The River Valley Wildcats geared up for their conference championships – scheduled for May 15 at the Sleepy Eye track – with both the girls and boys teams winning their five-team meet on Monday at home. The girls also won their May 8 home meet against three teams, while the boys took second.
The EDA Board met on Tuesday, April 22. The minutes of the March meeting were approved, and the financial reports were given. A detailed report on the continued challenges with the delinquent EDA loan payments from the former business of Shane’s Tire was shared with the EDA Board.

The Sleepy Eye FFA Chapter held the Awards Program on Sunday, May 4. It was a great opportunity to honor the members and chapter leaders as well as the major supporters for the chapter throughout the year.
