No. 5 Sleepy Eye started its playoff run last week by knocking out No. 12 St. Mary’s 8-3 in the first round of the Section 2A tournament.
It is finally here! Sign up for the Summer Reading Program begins this week with the program running for six weeks starting June 2. The main goal of the summer program is to keep kids reading so they don’t lose any reading skills before school starts again. That said, we have fun programming planned to include some art as well as reading. From an escape room, clay creation sessions and a mobile metal foundry to music, pollinator program and a physical comedy program, everyone should find something they like. Stop into the library and pick up a calendar of events – you don’t want to miss any!
A group of locals who are looking into the logistics of building a splash pad in Sleepy Eye presented their findings at the city council meeting on Tuesday, May 13. The group had met with Mayor Joann Schmidt, City Manager Bob Elston, and Director of Public Works Mike Hardin previously to broach the topic and were encouraged to take their research to the council.

Our nation just celebrated the 250th anniversary of the “shot heard round the world.” That was fired at Concord to begin the Revolutionary War. For baseball fans, the “shot heard round the world” was also Bobby Thompson’s homerun to win the pennant for the New York Giants in 1951.
