The other six days of Lent

As we entered the season of Lent this month, there has been a lot of discussion about what people are giving up for Lent. For those who might be unaware, Lent is a 40-day period when Christians repent of their sins, in preparation for Easter. Along with repentance, many Christians will also give something up. They might fast, meaning they will skip meals or meat for a purpose, which is to spend more time in prayer. For those who can’t give up meals (because it is bad for their health), some of them give up something else, like chocolate, coffee, TV, news media, and more. Many Christians give up their finances, and they donate to those in need. Lent is a time of simplicity, so the world is pushed to the side as we get ready to celebrate Easter morning, when the followers of Jesus discovered that His tomb was empty.

STATE BOUND

Morgan Mathiowetz and her teammates react after she tied Friday’s Section 2A championship game with less than 22 seconds to play with a bucket near the rim while getting fouled and falling to the floor. She would sink the free throw to make it a three-point play and put St. Mary’s ahead. The Knights held on to beat BOLD 57-54 and advance to the Class A State Tournament. See page 12 for more on the game.

Voice of Sleepy Eye will be missed

Craig Hansen, the long time “voice of Sleepy Eye” on KNUJ radio’s FM station, SAM 107-3, passed away last week and things just won’t be the same to loyal listeners of the morning Sleepy Eye show on the radio, or for anyone involved in a community event who wanted to promote it on Craig’s show “Community Accent.” In fact, community events won’t be the same anymore as Craig was everywhere for any event, representing the radio station or volunteering for the event.
