Sportsmen’s fishing derby back on Sleepy Eye Lake

The Sleepy Eye Sportsmen’s Club 43rd Annual Fishing Derby returns Feb. 2 with the biggest part of the event back after a year off. Organizers canceled the fishing portion in 2024 due to poor ice from record warm temps – the first time in event history they had to do so – and moved their raffles and entertainment to Sportsmen’s Park to keep the bulk of the derby’s fundraising efforts going.

Blood drive exceeds goal

Donations to the American Red Cross blood drive on Jan. 7 in Sleepy Eye exceeded by three units the event’s goal of 122 collections, according to coordinators. They thanked the Herald-Dispatch, Sleepy Eye Online, the Sportsmen’s Club, Americana Bank, Schutz Family Foods and all the donors and workers at the Event Center.

Hockey Day kudos

Sending out words of both congrats and thanks to the NUSE Board Members and countless volunteers, sponsors, and families who put on another successful Hockey Day in New Ulm this past Saturday at the Civic Center.
