Childcare burn case ends in settlement

The scalding of a 12-month-old at Sleepy Eye’s publicly funded Little Sprouts Learning Center in February 2023 has resulted in a $900,000 settlement with the daycare provider’s insurance carrier.The amount – and an update on the child’s recovery from her severe burns – were provided in a Brown County court hearing last week in which Judge Richard Rodenberg approved the settlement and distribution of money in the personal injury case.The child, who lives in New Ulm, was flown to Hennepin County Medical Center’s Burn Center the day of her injury with burns to her face, chest and left arm.

County re-sending to all mail ballot voters for primary

By Kelly Hotovec, Brown County Election AdministratorBrown County election officials have identified and are addressing a processing error where some mail ballot voters received balloting materials with mismatched outgoing and signature envelopes for the August 13 State Primary Election.Upon learning of this error, Brown County Election officials immediately contacted the print vendor to begin an investigation to identify the cause of the error and notified the Minnesota Secretary of State’s office.Prior to the print vendor mailing the original mail balloting materials, a correction was made to the ballot file and re-sent to the printer.
