Sleepy Eye’s Post 7 Senior Legion ballplayers outscored their three opponents in Sub-State play 28-8 last week, advancing them to the Sub-State championship at 11 a.m.
Council to tap investment gains as it moves to blunt tax increase
Instead of spending cuts, council members plan to use an additional $75,000 from the city’s investment returns to bring next year’s tax increase under double digits.The mayor, city manager and three councilors agreed at a July 17 budget review to pull that extra revenue into next year’s proposal as they work toward their first vote on the spending plan in September.

Second officer in a year charged with DWI
A Sleepy Eye Police officer who was injured when he crashed his motorcycle in May on Highway 4 near Hector was charged on Monday with a DWI in the case.Taylor Bolinger, 32, is still recovering from his injuries and has not yet returned to work, City Manager Bob Elston said.
