With the closure of the Dairy Queen in New Ulm and new owners taking over in Sleepy Eye, the center of balance in Brown County’s soft-serve landscape is shifting westward.Darrell and Stacy Kral expected to close this week on their purchase of the Sleepy Eye restaurant and plan to renovate it later this summer.

For the second time in three years, the city’s Economic Development Authority is seeking bids from entrepreneurs in hopes of turning one of Main Street’s most prominent vacant structures into a contributing member of downtown once again.The EDA will accept proposals for the former city hall building at 108 Main St.

The city’s annual tree planting for Arbor Day last week came with plenty of visual aids for the students who made this year’s field trip to Prairie View Park.A quick look around showed the children what not to do and hinted at the tall task ahead in Sleepy Eye.Throughout the park and lining its ball fields were ash trees.
