Decorated fighter pilot from Sleepy Eye nails high-risk landing
Something went so wrong during takeoff for Air Force pilot Brady Augustin that the Sleepy Eye native had two options to survive once his F-16 was airborne: eject or try to land wheels up, on the fighter jet’s belly.Augustin’s actions, skill and quick thinking that day in March 2022 led to another honor last week for the already highly decorated Airman and 2005 Sleepy Eye grad.

Bearcats in lead on mascot name change
The committee charged with reviewing nominations to replace the Indians as Sleepy Eye Public Schools’ team name has recommended the Bearcats.The School Board has final say on the choice and was expected to discuss the matter at its regular meeting this week, after this issue of the Herald-Dispatch went to press.The committee began meeting last month and reviewed more than 90 responses to an anonymous online survey that was active from October to January.
