Children’s story about determination, accepting others has Sleepy Eye connection

A boy with extended family in Sleepy Eye is the inspiration behind a new children’s book promoting acceptance and understanding of people with special needs.“Kip’s Funny Little Feet” was written by Taylor Hindermann of Montgomery, Minn., based on the experience of her youngest son, Kip, learning about determination and self-acceptance as he overcomes obstacles to walk with the help of supportive braces.

Plan to spruce up downtown in works

The city’s Downtown Revitalization Committee hopes to start a program next year to beautify the Main Street corridor with flowers, planters and other decorative touches.Donations and maintenance care from businesses, community groups and individuals would support the Downtown Alive initiative, which is envisioned as a way to boost commerce by making downtown more attractive, encouraging return visits and extending stays.
