Striding into the future . . .

In the coming weeks, high school seniors across the country will don caps and gowns and proudly walk across a stage to receive a diploma in the culmination of a 13-year goal that has taken the support of many people along the way in order to achieve it. Seniors, your family, in particular, has been with you every step of the way and I hope you thank them.

Some City Council members have expressed a lot of concern about the past legalization of cannabis edibles and the current bill that would legalize the recreational use of marijuana. They are worried about the safety of our young people.

James Jeffrey Ludewig, age 34, of Sleepy Eye, has been charged in Brown County District Court with Felony assault- 2nd degree-dangerous weapon; and with Misdemeanor domestic assault-commits act to cause fear of immediate bodily harm or death. According to the Statement of Probably Cause, on April 3 a deputy with the Brown County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported domestic disturbance at a rural Sleepy Eye address. Victim 1 had called 911 saying Ludewig had threatened her with a knife; dispatch said they heard yelling and loud banging in the background and then lost contact with Victim 1.
