When people complain that I am biased (hardly ever happens) I remind them that this column is my opinion—not a news story. Well, in my opinion, this is a pretty darn good job.

I salute the Hollywood writers who went out on strike this past week but I can tell you that we essayists won’t be joining them. For one thing, the essay is deeply imbedded in our nation’s very identity (U.S.A.) but for another thing, a national essay strike would be like a National Husbands Day of Silence, most wives wouldn’t care and many wouldn’t notice.
Dale Grundmeyer, 79, Peru, IN, passed away at home on April 29, 2023. He was born October 21, 1943, in Sleepy Eye to Henry and Bernice Grundmeyer.

The District 84 Board of Education heard three special presentations at their May 10 meeting. The first, two were about senior class trips.
The Knights of Columbus Teddy Bears for Bridget drive is underway, with teddy bears available for a $20 donation at many Sleepy Eye locations and in the surrounding communities. The Knights received a donation of $2,500 for the project from the Servicemen’s Club’s charitable gambling fund. In his helpful commentary on the book of Psalms, Dale Ralph Davis writes: “We expect to be lied to in our society in advertising, media, politics, legal system, religion, and government.” This is a sadly accurate comment. People seem to say what they want, thinking they are accountable to no one.
The Sleepy Eye FFA Chapter held their Awards Program on Sunday, May 7. It was a great opportunity to honor the members and chapter leaders as well as the major supporters for the chapter throughout the year.
