Psalm 16 -The Messiah’s Prayer…The Believer’s Prayer

T h e mother is sitting at the bed side of her three-year-old. Every night for the last month, the mother has been speaking one petition of the Lord’s prayer and then giving her t-hreeyear- old a chance to repeat after her. Soon there is no need for a pause because the child has the prayer memorized. That child grows up and repeats the practice for children. This important practice is ours to continue. Today we will use Psalm 16 to teach us to pray and confess the joy of our own resurrection.

The long winter is ending here in Southern Minnesota, which brings us to spring — a time for fresh grass, blooming flowers, and warmer weather. With the change in seasons, now is a good time to make sure that you are prepared for the severe weather that often comes with spring. Weather can be unpredictable this time of year, so taking precautions can keep you and your loved ones safe.

What a little train trip can do

Spring leaped out at us in New York last week — suddenly one day it was 80, just like me — it sprang at us shang a lang lang as once we’d sung so we were sprung from the steel corset of winter and I took a couple of Londoners to lunch at the Oyster Bar in Grand Central Station where, when I was 11, I ate my first oyster on a trip from Minnesota with my dad. I saw him eat one and so I ate one and I trace my independence back to that 1953 oyster — when you eagerly devour something that would disgust your beloved aunts, you’ve taken a step toward becoming your own person.

Quick work by Sleepy Eye City Council Tuesday night

No one was surprised that the Sleepy Eye City Council meeting was a short one on Tuesday evening, April 11—the agenda didn’t contain any issues requiring a lot of council discussion. Unfortunately the meeting took 15 minutes, a minute shy of the short meeting record, said Police Chief Matt Andres, who was in attendance but didn’t have any business to bring before the council this month.

Farm Bill discussion covers many topics

The Brown County Farmers Union arranged to have Julia Wickham, Agriculture, Energy & Environment Outreach Director for U.S. Senator Tina Smith of Minnesota, come to Sleepy Eye for a Farm Bill Listening Session on Tuesday afternoon, April 4 at the Sleepy Eye Coffee Co. About 20 people, farmers and others interested in farm policy, attended. Wickham held a similar session that morning in Gaylord.
