Marriage and sexuality is one of the hottest topics in our world today. Our modern, western world is rebelling against God’s desire for mankind as summarized in the Sixth Commandment. While many people look at this issue and see only God’s anger and what He forbids, we need to remember that God’s commandments are given to mankind to protect a blessing He desires to bless mankind with. It is extremely important to remember this when we study the Sixth Commandment.
Sleepy Eye High School Student Council and Minnesota Honor Society held a MN Food Share Campaign, challenging students to collect money and non-perishable items for the Sleepy Eye Food Shelf - with a goal of $500. The GFWC Qui Vive Club met April 6 at Divine Providence Fireside Room, with some members of The Woman’s Club attending. Special guests were Sleepy Eye Public School foreign exchange student Amy van Bragt and some of her host family, Cathy Fischer, Sophie Gustafson and Jane Fischer. Amy is from the Netherlands and spoke about her country. She mentioned the differences of schools, sports, weather, and food, and shared treats of cookies and aged Gouda cheese.

The annual Spring Sports preview appears in our sports pages today. When we scheduled it we thought we better come up with a better name, because by the time it was in the paper it would no longer be a “preview,” so we named it Spring Sports Spotlight, which has a nice ring to it, even thought it turns out that it really is a “preview” due to our long national nightmare: March and early April. (Okay maybe not national, but that phrase is fun to use to exaggerate something).
The Sleepy Eye Indians boys basketball team recently had their season end awards program. Coach Shane Heiderscheidt presented the following awards.
Head Coach: Bruce Woitas (33rd year as head coach). Assistant Coaches: Josh Kopacek, Scott Salfer, Nick Labat; Junior High: Randy Armbruster and Brad Mathiowetz.
The Sleepy Eye YES! Team had a workshop on plastic waste recycling at the Community Center on March 30. Coach Deb Reinarts said it was a good opportunity for newer and younger members of the YES! team to educate themselves, as well as to gain more knowledge in how to educate students and staff in the schools and community. Reinarts said the workshop helped the YES! team generate ideas for activities for YES! Team action projects and community outreach—in the schools during Earth Week and at the community Party in the Park this summer.
