Junior Achievement Donation

First Security Bank presented a donation of $2,000 to Junior Achievement. Erica Kimsey, JA District Manager, said, “The donation will help over 350 Sleepy Eye students get access to Junior Achievement programming which prepares young people with the skillset and mindset to build thriving communities. Businesses, organizations, present at Chamber event

The Sleepy Eye Chamber of Commerce hosts Business to Business Education and Networking Luncheons several times each year. The most recent was held Thursday, April 20 at the Sleepy Eye Event Center. Presenters included Tech Unlimited, Little Sprouts Learning Center, Junior Achievement, Brown County FREE Fair, and Balchem. Each described their business or organization and shared interesting information that people in the community might not have previously known.

Love one another

It seems like summer came and went in a short 48-hour time period recently. As I write, it is cold, there is snow falling and I am convinced Christmas ornaments will up at Ace or Menards soon enough. One thing I have learned about the weather here in Minnesota, everything moves fast! Have you noticed how pathetic a robin covered with snow looks like in April? Poor things, but robins persist.

It has been a while since Chief Andres has been able to talk me into writing an article for the newspaper. This time it did not take much convincing because I have been working on a lot of scam cases lately. I feel the need to bring awareness to our community regarding a new scam I have been seeing more frequently in recent months. The most recent scam that is occurring at an alarming rate in our community is sextortion. These scams typically victimize teens and young adults as they involve some form of social media.

Three win start for Lady Knights

After five weather related postponements, the Lady Knights finally got on the softball field Wednesday, April 12, for a home doubleheader with New Ulm Cathedral— two wins for the Knights. •Game 1: Knights 3, Cathedral 2 Lacey Mathiowet-z was the winning pitcher with 8 strikeouts, 5 walks and 5 hits.
