River Valley Wildcats compete against Class AA teams

The River Valley Wildcats track team was back at MSU-Mankato for another indoor meet on Tuesday, April 4 at MSU-Mankato. This meet was hosted by Mankato West and River Valley was the only Class A team competing against Class AA teams Marshall, Waseca, and Mankato West. Coach Heidi McCone was happy with the Wildcats’ performance, saying, “we competed against all AA teams and held our own!” Top finishers for boys 400 meter run: Nathan Sandgren, 3rd, 59.24 PR (personal record).

Sleepy Eye historian Elizabeth Scobie featured at BCHS program

The Brown County Historical Society presented its annual Women’s History Month program on March 30 at the Best Western in New Ulm. The program was titled “Tell Me More - Notable Women of Brown County.” The format was a repeat of last year’s popular program, “Do Tell” in which women noted in Brown County’s past were portrayed by volunteer reenacters. The “Tell” term in the titles referred to stories, or gossip, shared among friends (female and male) with fun comments about old time telephone party lines.

Sleepy Eye Public School news

I am so glad to see that snow is truly melting finally and by the time this article is published we will have temperatures in the high seventies. Winter was truly rough on the schools this year. I truly don’t recall having this long of a cold spell. Seems like March treated us like early February this year. I am hoping our spring sports will be able to get into full gear and the weather cooperates for the rest of the spring. We are very fortunate that we are able to use digital days if we are unable to have school. Our staff have done a very nice job managing students remotely and ensuring that those days are actually are meaningful. The digital days also allowed us to keep the Easter break intact.
