Do you like rules? It is not uncommon for people to complain about rules set by those in authority, whether it be house rules about eating our food or bedtimes, or community blight laws, laws that limit the size of outbuildings on our property, building codes, etc. Most of the laws in our community, state and nation were created in response to a particular situation. Someone in town can’t or won’t keep his home and property cleaned up and looking nice. This makes the neighborhood look bad and brings down property value. So blight laws are enacted. A contractor makes a mistake or cuts corners in construction resulting in a bridge or structure collapse, so new building codes are passed into law. Some such laws are beneficial and serve the people of the community.
