Full speed ahead in 2023

It’s been a whirlwind of almost three months into 2023 here at the Sleepy Eye Chamber of Commerce. Our Annual Meeting back in February, celebrating our Chamber Member FRIENDS, was an amazing night of membership and community support. Deb from the Herald-Dispatch did a great job covering the night but to recap, we gathered with 135 individuals to honor our Shining Star Recipient - Shannon Schutz, our Social Media Standout Business – Powerhouse Nutrition, and of course remembering the energetic community spirit of Dr. Dean Brinkman, our Friend of Sleepy Eye recipient.

Sleepy Eye Community Theater announces “Clue” auditions

Sleepy Eye Community Theater is thrilled to announce it will be producing the enormously popular show “Clue” this June. A large cast of non-singing roles is needed, with roles for high school-aged students through adults. Auditions will take place at the Sleepy Eye High School Choir Room on Saturday, March 18 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and Sunday, March 19 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. No preparation is needed for the audition. Enter through the main doors at Sleepy Eye Public High School.

Thompson places 6th at State Wrestling Tournament

New Ulm Area Eagles wrestler Evan Thompson, a junior at Sleepy Eye High School, earned a berth in the Minnesota Class AA Individual Wrestling Tournament held last weekend. Wrestling at 285, Thompson had a 44-4 record going in to the state tournament. He finished in 6th place among the field of 16 wrestlers in his weight class. As a junior, he has another chance at State next year.

Our second Progress Edition is in the newspaper today. I always love learning more about the businesses or groups we feature in Progress. Also—not playing favorites— bu! my key takeaways are: Patrick Hoffmann is quite the young entrepreneur; if you want to build a house or commercial building in Sleepy Eye, you should check out what the City has to sell; and finally— those beautiful lights we all love during the Holiday Lights in Motion season don’t get there by themselves, more volunteers are needed to get the job done!
