Thompson headed to state wrestling tournament

SEHS junior Evan Thompson (third from left), a member of the New Ulm Area Eagles wrestling team, is pictured on the podium at the Section 3AA individual wrestling tournament held in Morris on Feb. 25. Thompson finished in second place to advance to the Class AA State Tournament on Friday, March 3 at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. This is Evan’s 11th year wrestling. He said, “This season has been full of ups and downs, and I owe it all to the people around me. My family has been a great support system for a long time. Going to state has always been a dream of mine, so it’s crazy to think that it’s finally happening. It’s been a long time coming, and I know the younger version of myself would be so proud.” Sleepy Eye High School held a hallway walk-through sendoff for Evan Thursday morning to recognize his accomplishment and wish him well.
