Second place for River Valley speakers

On Saturday, March 4, the River Valley speech team took second place at the Montevideo Thunder Hawk Speech Invitational. Earning first place champion medals were CJ Surprenant in extemporaneous speaking and Samantha Ibberson in poetry interpretation. Second place medals were awarded to Kiera Lafferty in serious prose interpretation, Abigail Schwartz in Original Oratory, Lily Kallevig in extemporaneous reading, and John Miller in serious drama interpretation. Brenna Pabst received a third place medal in serious prose interpretation. A fourth place medal was earned by Joseph Jensen in humorous interpretation. Isabella Hoffmann and Paige Schwarzrock both received 5th place medals in informative speaking and humorous interpretation, respectively. Sarah Kottke rounded off the team’s accomplishments with a blue ribbon.

Ballet Folklorico Mexico Azteca at SSTC Saturday evening

Free student workshops in the afternoon Submitted Area residents can avail themselves of a unique cultural opportunity at State Street Theater in New Ulm on Saturday, March 11 at 7 p.m. With a mission to “educate, preserve and inspire people to celebrate the heritage and beauty of Mexico…especially its folkloric arts,” it will take patrons on a journey through various areas of Mexico, sharing the unique dance, history and music of each.
