2023 Highway 14 Crops, Livestock, and Soil Innovation Conference coming to Sleepy Eye Feb. 22

The Brown Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is partnering with other area SWCDs and organizations to host its second annual Highway 14 Crops, Livestock, and Soil Innovation Con-ference (CLASIC) Tour stop. This year’s CLASIC tour will be held in three locations along Highway 14—Lake Benton, Sleepy Eye, and Owatonna, throughout the week of Feb. 2123. These CLASIC tour stops bring both expert keynote speakers and local farmers to a city near you for a convenient way to learn how they are successfully implementing the latest crop, livestock, and soil innovations.

A second year of success for Sleepy Eye Pond Hockey Classic

Sleepy Eye Pond Hockey Classic organizers kept the recently made ice rinks at Burnside Park in good condition with a homemade mini-Zamboni, shown here being pulled by Zach Mickleson with Sean Mathiowetz following. Lucas Heiderscheidt said the day went really well and they got a lot of positive reports. 'A big thank you to all the businesses that supported us and to all the people who volunteered their help as well,' he said.

Congratulations to Coach Woitas on 500 wins with the Lady Knights basketball team!

St. Mary’s girls basketball team congratulate Coach Bruce Woitas on his coaching win number 500, on Jan. 26. Woitas told the Herald-Dispatch he looks back at all the players that have played over the years, and commented, “I told the kids after the game, my first year as head coach was 0-19. The whole program has come a long ways over those 33 years. I kind of reflect on all the players that have played in the past . . . Ashley Schieffert, my assistant coach, is part of those 500 wins. Knights edge Indians in rematch

It was payback time for the Lady Knights when they hosted the Indians on Jan. 26. The earlier match-up between the teams, on Jan. 9 at Sleepy Eye High School, was a 64--55 victory for the Indians. Thursday, on their home court, the Knights prevailed to edge the Indians 54 to 51.
