Early childhood screening scheduled for Feb. 2

Sleepy Eye school district will be offering early childhood screening services to district residents on Thursday, Feb. 2 at Trinity Lutheran Church basement. Early childhood screening is not used to determine readiness for kindergarten, but is designed to detect delays in specific areas early in a child’s development. The sooner the problems can be recognized and referred for further assistance, the better service the child will receive to correct the delay.

Sleepy Eye Public School news

Sleepy Eye Public School is back in full swing after a well-deserved holiday break. I certainly hope that the winter weather will treat us a bit nicer than what we have experienced so far. I don’t mind the snow, but like everything else, I prefer it in moderation. We have a long way to go yet but I am hoping that we see a little less intensity than we had the past month.

Test your home for radon

It is odorless and colorless and is only detected through testing. Radon from the soil moves through the dirt and rocks and into homes through pathways like cracks, gaps, and exposed soil.

Students attend OJT Job Fair

Local high school students had the opportunity to learn more about, the OJT program (On the Job Training) and speak with the businesses offering job training, at. the OJT Job Fair held at. the Event. Center on Thursday, Jan. 12. Students who will be juniors or seniors next, year can apply for OJT positions.

Food Shelf receives donation from Schwartz Farms employees

Schwartz Farms of Sleepy Eye recently held an Employee Christmas party where they hosted an Employee Food Drive Competition for the Sleepy Eye Food Shelf. The employees, made up of three teams, collected a total of 259 pounds of food. Minnesota State University Moorhead announced Stephanie Fernandez and Joseph Ibberson of Sleepy Eye have been named to the fall semester dean’s list for earning a GPA of 3.25 or higher. South Dakota State University announced the following students from Sleepy Eye had been named to the fall semester dean’s list for earning a GPA of at least 3.5, asterisks indicate a 4.0 GPA: Trey Heiderscheidt, Gabriella Helget, Abigail Hoffmann, Sophie Kyllonen, Jacob Lux *, Natalie Marti *, Madison Mathiowetz, Samantha Richert, Trenton Steffensmeier, and Jacob Stevens.

Lions Club Students of the Month for December

Samantha Ibberson is a senior at St. Mary’s High School. Throughout high school, she was a cheerleader and played volleyball. She also was involved in softball as a statistician. Samantha has been in school musicals every year and been on the Speech team, also. She is a member of the YES! Team, Minnesota Honor Society and Student Council. Samantha works as a customer service specialist and parttime inventory manager at Serendipity Boutique.
