St. Mary’s High School has announced that- Abigail Schwartz and Christian (CJ) Surprenant were selected as winners of the Triple “A” award. The Academics, Arts, and Athletics Award, honors high school seniors throughout the state who have a 3.0 or higher grade point average and who participate in Minnesota State High School League-sponsored athletic and fine arts activities. Each school may nominate one boy and one girl for the award. Abigail and CJ are now entered in the Region 2A competition.

The stage was set for this Saturday’s second annual Sleepy Eye Pond Hockey Classic on Sleepy Eye Lake. Organizer Lucas Heiderscheidt and a small army of hockey buddies and supporters, had even cleared this ice and built six hockey rinks on the lake. That was before it rained, then snowed, wrecking the ice surface. In addition, deep snow and slush created an iffy ice safety situation. Something had to be done.

On Saturday, Jan. 19, St. Mary’s High School hosted the 2nd Annual Tomahawk vs. Red Rock Conference Tournament. Last year’s tournament was hosted by Westbrook Walnut Grove, also with five teams from each of the two conferences matching up.
