Newly-elected House Minority Leader Lisa Demuth, R-Cold Spring, has appointed Rep. Paul Torkelson, R-Hanska, to serve as Deputy Minority Leader for the Minnesota House Republican Caucus. Torkelson was just elected to his eighth term and has held a number of leadership posts within the House GOP including two stints as an Assistant Minority Leader in the 2013-2014 and 2021-2022 bienniums, Assistant Majority Leader during the 20112012 biennium, and serving as Chair of the House Capital Investment (2015-2016) and Transportation Finance Committee (2017-2018). He served as the Republican Lead on the House Redistricting Committee during the 20212022 biennium.

We have so very much to be thankful for in this 2022 year. So before I jump into the details of what is taking place with the Chamber, I would just like to say that I am so very thankful for you, our community. The numerous times you have supported the efforts of the Chamber by promoting Sleepy Eye and its businesses or just showing up at our events, means more than you could know. To you it may seem like the obvious or natural thing to do but know this, it is appreciated beyond measure and by your actions you are changing the perspective and the standards of Sleepy Eye.

St. Mary’s Catholic School is proud to present “Matilda the Musical.” Based on the novel “Matilda” by Roald Dahl, Matilda Wormwood (played by Natalie Fischer) is a little girl with incredible curiosity, an exceptional mind and a bold imagination— and, unfortunately, has the worst family in the world. While her parents (John Miller and Abigail Schwartz) are content with trashy TV and sketchy money- making schemes and her brother (Owen Weiss) is lazy and uneducated, Matilda prefers to lose herself in her much-loved books.
